Southern California-based kenjinkai (prefectural associations) that belong to the Japanese Prefectural Association of Southern California (JPASC, Nanka Kenjinkai Kyogikai) can recommend up to three (3) of their young adult members for the Ikuei Scholarship awarding exceptional students of Japanese and Okinawan culture.

ELIGIBILITY

(Subject to change)

• ​​Current member of the OAA with no outstanding dues
  • If the applicant is a dependent, their parent(s)/guardian(s) must be a current OAA member(s)
  • If the applicant or parent/guardian is a member of another kenjinkai (prefectural association), you may apply through them
• Between 15 – 35 years of age
• Must possess specialized skills in Japanese culture, arts, performing arts, martial arts*, language, etc.
  • Must be currently training or studying
  • Studying for a minimum of 2 years
  • * For martial arts, the applicant must have a minimum of ni-dan or equivalent​

• Recommendation letter from teacher/mentor indicating the duration of cultural proficiency training and reasons for the recommendation
• Recommendation letter from kenjinkai president stating the reasons for recommending the applicant
• A file or a passport-sized photograph of the applicant
