• Senior Citizens Club (Kajimayā)
◦ The Kajimayā Senior Citizens Club was co-founded in 2002 by Chogi Higa and Edward Shoichi Tamae to provide opportunities for senior members to congregate and socialize. ◦ The word “Kajimayā” is derived from “Hana nu Kajimayā,” an Okinawan celebration for a person’s 97th birthday based on the Lunar Calendar. Its literal translation is “windmill (hana) of the flower (kajimayā).” It is said that on one’s 97th birthday, the person has traveled through the many cycles of life gathering knowledge and wisdom through their journey, which eventually returns them to their childhood innocence. Flower shaped windmills are handed out to all guests, symbolizing the rotational cycle of life experiences. The Kajimayā Senior Citizens Club is an auxiliary club under the OAA.
