2002 Japanese
Chamber of Commerce Year-end Charity Drive
By Jane H. Kuniyoshi
For three week-ends, starting
November 30, 2002, and ending on December 15, 2002, thirty-one willing
and cooperative OAA, Inc. volunteers manned both entrances of Mitsuwa
Marketplace in Torrance, CA, to help raise funds to benefit the Keiro
Healthcare Services, Keiro Nursing Homes and Keiro Daycare Programs.
OAA, Inc. worked in partnership with the Japanese Chamber of Commerce
in their "End of the Year Charity Drive".
Mr. George Kato,
Vice-President of JCC, reported that OAA, Inc. collected $1,936.20 during
the three weekends with the help of the JCI Kendo Dojo, Nishi Yamato
Academy and the Ikenobo Ikebana School. The total donations from all
the Mitsuwa Marketplaces, Marukais, Pacific Market and Enbun Market
collected was over $12,000. Mr. Kato, chairperson for this drive, expressed
his sincere appreciation on behalf of JCC and all the senior recipients
of the Keiro Healthcare Services, for OAA, Inc.'s participation in this
benefit charity drive.
It was the true
"Uchinanchu spirit" of helping one another, especially our
precious seniors, that was evident in the cheerful smiles and enthusiastic,
but, gentle persuasion of the volunteers asking for donations that made
this charity drive such a success. We can be so proud of all the volunteers
that donated their money and their busy weekends for this worthy cause.
