2003 32nd
Kohaku Uta Gassen
We were so proud
of Masao Tobaru (OAA Board of Directors) and Seiko Shimabukuro (brother
of Seiichi Shimabukuro) who sang at the annual 32nd Kohaku Uta Gassen
held at Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple Kaikan on January 5, 2003. A
standing room only audience enjoyed the outstanding presentation of
30 talented singers in the traditional Red and White Competition.
It was a wonderful
experience to see the marching in of all the singers onto the stage,
the throwing of mochi to some lucky people in the audience and the final
“throwing the balls” count to determine the winners –
Hooray! The White Team (men) won!
As an added treat
for everyone, Tamagusuku Ryu Kansen No Kai Yonamine Keiko Dojo presented
3 beautiful dances: Shi Shi Mai, Hatoma Bushi, Kurushima Bushi. Thanks
to Yonamine Sensei for sharing our Okinawan culture to the Japanese
Community.
Congratulations
to Masao, Seiko, & Yonamine Sensei for a job well done!
