The Geino-Bu, under
the auspices of the OAA, was officially established in November of 1987
with the spirit of unity and cooperation to perpetuate, preserve, and
disseminate the cultural performing arts of Okinawa. The Geino-Bu is
comprised of OAA members of various sanshin, koto, taiko, folk singing,
and classical/folk dancing schools. Activities since the establishment
includes nine showcasings of “Utayabira, Wuduyabira” with the entire
membership of the Geino-Bu for performance at such theaters as the Japan
America Theater, James Armstrong Theater, and various Japanese community
centers with the proceeds earmarked for a certain purpose. The Geino-bu
has also participated with performances in the Nisei Week Parades, museums,
educational institutions and other Japanese community organizations.
However, our priority and main goal is to help out at the OAA sponsored
events, and as such has participated and assisted annually at Shinnen
Enkai, Fujin-Bu and Seisonen-Bu events, Undokai/Picnic, Kanshanohi,
Bazaar and many others.
