The Cultural Committee
(Bunka-Bu) was officially within the Okinawa Association of America,
Inc. (Kenjinkai) during the early part of the century. The purpose is
to preserve and promote the Okinawan culture, including Okinawan performing
arts, the Okinawan dialect (Uchinaguchi), Okinawa's history, and the
unique cuisine of the islands.
Annual agenda items
are as follows:
Winter (January)
Assist in directing
entertainment program for the annual New Years Party (Shinenenkai).
Spring (May)
Assist Geinobu’s
Utayabira Uduyabira (“Let’s Sing,” “Let’s Dance”)
Summer (July/August)
Participation in
the Annual Nisei Week Parade
Autumn (September)
Coordinate the
entertainment program of Keiro-Kansha-No-Hi (Senior Citizens Day)
Autumn (October)
Participate and
direct the entertainment program for the Annual Bazaar.
